Yuwenbon Language Services, previously known as Yuwenbon Chinese School, was founded by Wanda Shaw as Huntsville Chinese Village in 2005. By request, Wanda started to provide Chinese language instruction and various cultural activities, such as lunch/dinner parties, field trips, holiday celebrations, Chinese traditional dances, summer camps, and helped two students apply for a youth immersion trip to Taiwan.
To celebrate Chinese culture, we volunteered to support many community organizations: Huntsville Chinese Association, FCC (Families with Children from China), Jade Club, Hot Spot Productions, Chinese churches and fellowships, Madison County Public Library, and the Arts Council (Panoply Arts Festival). We volunteered teaching Chinese language at Weatherly Heights Elementary School and Mountain Gap Middle School from 2006 to 2009.
Huntsville Chinese Village LLC was born in 2012, and at this time we started doing business as Yuwenbon with our slogan being “Learning Never Ends”. Yuwenbon means “language culture list.” For centuries, Chinese people of all ages worked hard for years to get on the “list” of academic exam winners. When they did, they could bring such a great honor to their family. At times, the benefits that came with this honor changed the lives of themselves, their family, and the future generations.
As we examined all the important values we hold dear from our history, “learning” kept appearing. Our favorite Chinese proverb is “Learning is like a boat going upstream; if you don’t continue to move forward, you will be pulled back.”
“True learning has two components: knowledge and action. After all is stripped away, what we leave behind is the impact of our character.” An elderly Chinese gentleman wrote this saying, matted it, and gave it to Wanda Shaw when she was a social worker helping Chinese immigrants adapt to American lives 30 years ago.
Because this concept of learning is the center of our organization, we chose the Chinese proverb, “Learning Never Ends” as our slogan.
In 2015 Yuwenbon/Huntsville Chinese Village celebrates its tenth year with a vision of spreading Chinese language and culture education through more Chinese camps. It is continually building its reputation of excellent Chinese language and culture education.
In 2016, Yuwenbon Chinese School added Spanish classes and math tutoring with more plans to add more services.
In 2017, Yuwenbon Chinese School changed its name again to "Yuwenbon Learning Center". We now offer the following languages: Chinese, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and French.
In 2018 and 2019, we offered language training for DOD and taught its employees Portuguese and Russian. October 12, 2019 with the help of some students, we dedicated our school to serve God's purpose. We changed our slogan to "Learning with purpose". In 2020, we began to offer translation and interpreter services, and changed our name to Yuwenbon Language Services.
In 2023, Yuwenbon added more Spanish teachers, and started offering Spanish Conversation classes for students who wanted to practice their language skills with a native speaker.
